As a TEAMS Coach, you'll have the chance to show students why math and science matter in the real-world. And don't worry, an engineering background is NOT required to coach. All that's needed is a willingness to try something new that will expand students' learning and help them experience engineering.

While TEAMS is structured to give you flexibility in preparation (we know your day is busy enough!), your primary responsibility is to provide overall guidance to your students and serve as the main point of contact for the competition. As a Coach you'll also need to:

  • Announce/promote the competition at your school.
  • Invite students to participate and form your team(s).
  • Register online and submit payment to JETS for your team(s). The average team cost is only $20 per student (8 students per team).
  • Stay informed of competition news and announcements.
  • Know the rules of the competition and share them with your students.
  • Attend the competition with your team(s).
  • Have fun and enjoy watching your students learn something new!

JETS is here to guide you through the competition experience. When you register a team(s), you'll receive the following:

  • A username and password to access your free Coach online account.
  • The 2009 Coach Guide filled with everything you need to know about TEAMS from selecting and preparing your team(s) to competition day specifics and post-competition awards.
  • Access to the 2009 Competition scenarios so you can help your students prepare.
  • Sample questions from previous competitions and tips for answering Part 2.
  • An automatic free subscription to JETS e-newsletter, The Pre-Engineering Times.
