Gardner Edgerton wins with BART, the Bag Attachment and Replacement Technology, a compound device that allows a user to change and tie a trash bag with only one hand. BART consists of three main components: a cylindrical dispenser for trash bags, a clip that holds the trash bag in place on the trash can, and a tying mechanism. Click here for more information.

Gardner Edgerton has won $3,000 for their school's sponsoring department and a trip to Los Angeles, CA, April 14-17 to present at the NISH annual conference.

Finalists

Congratulations to our six NEDC finalist teams. Each team has won an all expense paid trip to Washington DC, on February 14-16, 2007 to present, demonstrate, and defend their prototype. The best overall design will win $3,000 for the winning team's sponsoring department. Two other outstanding teams will also be awarded $1,500 for their school's sponsoring departments.

The Arthriscissors is a modified pair of scissors, designed to decrease repetitive hand motions involved in the repeated cutting of paper products by employing a sliding button mechanism to operate the scissors compared to traditional scissors that require one to repeatedly clench and open the hand.

The High Roller is a manually operated wheelchair that provides over ten inches of vertical lift while maintaining a simple, safe, functional, and inexpensive design.

The Parapalegic Agricultural Lift (PAL) is an agricultural lift used to raise the operator from a wheelchair on the ground to the driver's seat of a combine. It is completely automated and can be operated independently through the use of a remote control.

Ergonomic Spool Assembly System (eSAS) is an adjustable table that combines adjustable height and incline to allow a workers in a wheelchairs to manufacture spools easily.

The SinkAble is an adjustable sink that can be retrofitted to nearly any bathroom. This attachable sink makes it easy for a person who uses a wheelchair to wash his or her hands, while maintaining the functionality of the original sink.
